Abstract

The Role of Cultural and Economic Capital of Family and Type of School in Educational Performance of High School and Preuniversity Students Abstract: Educational performance of high school and pre-university students is one of main concerns of families. In this study, the effect of different social factors such as cultural and economic capitals of family and type of school (public, private) on educational performance of students has been assessed. The present study is a survey in which the data was collected by questionnaire. The study population consists of all of math students studying in pre-university level in region 14 of Tehran in academic year of 2007 -08. The sample size is 250 students selected randomly by the use of Cochran formula. Results show that cultural capital and its dimensions and type of school have significant relationship with the educational performance of students, while, economic capital has very small significant effect on the educational performance of students.
